About Nina

Me having a deep thought.
Or maybe humming to myself.
Hi! I hate writing about myself, so this is going to be short and sweet.

My real name is Janina, but I've gone by Nina (rhymes with Katrina and subpoena) ever since I went away to college. I've been married to Dan since 2003, and we have one child, a daughter whose name (on this blog) is Scout.

Here are fifteen (or so) things about me that you may or may not find fascinating:
  • I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2000, Maine to Georgia.
  • I love to play the piano and currently take piano lessons.
  • Many of the things I love start with "c" - calico cats, cookies, classical music, cabernet, chocolate, chips, chocolate chips.
  • I love hiking and wrote a book on hiking in a previous lifetime (2003).
  • I am a Christian who has spent most of my adult life as an atheist.
  • I'm an introvert who is trying to learn to be better at hospitality.
  • For much of my life, I've struggled with severe depression. By the grace of God, I'm currently on a five-year run of not being depressed.
From our 6th grade yearbook.
  • People think I'm a Ravenclaw, but the Harry Potter site's sorting hat said I'm a Gryffindor, so I'm sticking with that.
  • My favorite Beatle is George.
  • For my day job, I'm a technical writer.
  • I have severe hearing loss in my right ear, and moderately severe hearing loss in my left.
  • I will always love Rick Springfield.
  • My favorite OT book is Proverbs, and my favorite NT book is John.
  • I was a freshman in college when I finally admitted to myself that studying was way more fun than partying.
  • Contrary to everyone's memories, I did not wear braided pigtails in the sixth grade. I only wore them for picture day.
