Lent photo project 2020, day 13: journey

"'He told them: 'Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt. Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.' So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere." Luke 9:3-6

I travel a lot and I love packing. I guess this stems from the fact that I also love planning. Planning gives me a sense of control over my day and organizes my days. So I am just blown away by Jesus' instructions to His disciples here. Take *nothing* for the journey! No food, no money, no clothes, not even anything for protection! Trust entirely on God for guidance and instruction. Keep in tune with Him for everything. And it's not like He's sending them out to do fun things. They have to go out to towns they don't know to tell potentially belligerent people that what they have been believing in is wrong! They could starve, be assaulted, or die. Or they could be welcomed. They just don't know.

I pray that I can have that kind of courage some day. In my day to day journey with Christ, I know I don't trust Him enough and I'm frequently trying to out-plan Him. I'm thankful that in spite of that He still loves me and leads me, but I think it would be nice not to make things too hard for myself by trying to be in control all the time.

Below are some of my travel bags. :)
