Lent Photo Project, Day 17: Work

She sets about her work vigorously;
    her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,
    and her lamp does not go out at night.
In her hand she holds the distaff
    and grasps the spindle with her fingers. - Proverbs 31:17-19

These verses always make me think of my Aunt Joyce. She was strong, intelligent, focused, a hard worker who was up late and up early. She was a longtime teacher and guidance counselor, and she could work magic with a sewing machine. She passed away in August 2017. These verses from Proverbs were read at her funeral. It struck me then how appropriate they were for her.

My middle name is Joyce, after her. I like to think we're alike in other ways, too. Like her, I love teaching and learning and being creative, and I love to read and write and take long walks. Like her, I'm a hard worker, though I don't think I have quite the energy that she always seemed to have.

This picture is from the last time we saw her, in Louisiana for Thanksgiving 2016. She loved Scout, and Scout adored her. So did I.

I miss her. I'm so thankful for the many years that she was in my life.
