Create in me a clean heart, O God;
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence;
and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;
and uphold me with thy free spirit. (Psalm 51:10-12, KJV)
Renewal and restoration and righting of spirit. Here is a picture of a begonia we bought in spring or summer of 2018.
That winter, after it died, I emptied its flowerpot it into a large plastic bucket, along with a few other old, dead annuals. I'd planned to throw it all away but never got around to it, and the bucket sat on our back deck all winter.
Last spring, I was putting new flowers in the beds, and I went out back to see if I had some leftover soil in some of the big flowerpots and buckets we had there. I found this begonia, sideways in the bucket, just starting to bloom. I added it to the flowerbed in the front, and it was about that time that I took this picture.
The begonia bloomed all summer. And guess what! Its reddish-brown leaves are peeking out from under the old mulch right now.
What was dead and dried out and discarded has been righted, renewed, and restored.
