Lent Photo Project, Day 36: Innocent

Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:13-14)

This photo of me with Scout and my sweet niece, E-monk, popped up in my "On This Day" memories today. E-monk is now 11, and Scout is 10. I think these girls are losing some of their innocence right now, as schools are closed, the news (if they hear it) announces new COVID-19 cases every day, and we're told to shelter in place to avoid infecting our friends and neighbors.

I wish we could keep them this young forever, this innocent of all the bad stuff that happens in the world. Of the crime, the hatred, the sickness, the death.

My hope and prayer is that they will be a light to a dark world.
