In My Hand

The phrase "in my hand" immediately brought to mind these lyrics from the old song, "Eagle's Wings":

And He will raise you up on eagles' wings
Bear you on the breath of dawn
Make you to shine like the sun
And hold you in the palm of His hand.

We never sang this one in the Baptist church, but my mom remembered it from her Catholic childhood, and so I've known it for a long time. It's a beautiful song, often sung at funerals. My understanding is that it was inspired from Isaiah 40:31, which is at the end of this longer passage:

Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
    and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31)

What comfort to know that, even when we are weary, when we are in the throes of discouragement, in the depths of darkness either within us our without, He does not grow tired or weary.

I didn't have a photo of an eagle for today, and I didn't have one of those trendy photos of hands holding a plant, or shaped like a heart. But I do have a picture of Scout holding a note the made for one of our neighbors a couple of weeks ago.
