Time

I keep a bullet journal to manage my time. I am the mother of 4 and the manager of my very busy household. Even though my oldest 2 are in college and no longer living at home, I find that my days are just full and most days, if I get 2/3 of my scheduled tasks completed, I am pleased. Most days I struggle to do half. This pandemic has taken much away from us, but it has given us back some things. One of those things is time. This seems like a silly statement because the amount of time available has not changed. There are still 24 hours in a day, 365 days a year (or 366 for leaps). But now with so many things shut down or cancelled, many of us are finding ourselves with a lot of free time. I like using this circular stencil and color system for my scheduling because it lets me see where my time is going. Date Night

Well, I’ve been married to this guy for a long time. I met him in Zoology class. He had arrived early to class to take a quick nap, and I inadvertently woke him up as I sat in the desk next to him. We dated for a long time, five years, before we got married. This coming May, we will have been married 24 years. We read a lot of books about marriage when we were engaged and in those first years of marriage. We were determined to “do it right”. Some of those books were helpful. Some of those books were trash. We stopped reading books on marriage as the years went by, not because we had “mastered” the marriage thing and no longer needed help. Ha! Quite the opposite. As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17) There is so much wisdom in these words from Proverbs, but how often do we shy away from someone who would "sharpen" us? How often do we back down, or flare up, in the face of disagreement? How often do we avoid arguing our ideas because argument is conflict, and we hate conflict? How often do we refuse to listen to opposing ideas because we know we're right? Like many people (particularly women, I think), I've been a conflict-avoider for much of my life. I've always been wary of arguing a particular idea because--who knows?--maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I have something to learn. Maybe someone has a better argument, and my position isn't as tenable as I thought. Yes, I'm open-minded that way, which I think is a good thing, but there's also the fear that ...
