Breakfast

I find it funny that Westerners have “breakfast” foods—things that are most commonly eaten at breakfast. So strong is the tradition that many people sheepishly admit that they had “breakfast for dinner.”

In Asia and other parts of the world, there are no breakfast foods. Noodles, curries and porridge, eaten at any time of the day, and no one apologizes or thinks it’s weird. Pho, the national dish, is a popular meal in Vietnam, and often eaten for breakfast. At 5AM, the parks and markets are alive and well, with vendors hawking bowls of pho for business folks and consumers alike.

I have adapted to the customs of the non-Westerner. I love eating dinner leftovers for breakfast, though some mornings, I crave garlic cheese grits and sausage, a throwback to my deep South days.

And some people have to have their coffee in the morning—for me it’s either coffee or tea, sometimes just regular coffee and cream, other times a little fancy chai.

A lot of people also do their Bible study first thing in the morning. I have a high respect for these people, because it is something that I have never been able to do for more than maybe a few days in a row. I love the idea of “energizing” myself spiritually with God-food while fueling with edible food.

Ahh..one of these days….I can set a goal and maybe it will become a habit. Kudos to all of you who start off the day with a good dose of the Word.
