Underside

Mayapple. The wildflower grows in the "V" where the two stems meet.

This weekend I went hiking at a nearby state park. I spotted some mayapples, which surprised me because I haven't seen that many since we moved to Georgia. The flowers were long gone, but I recognized the sprightly, palm-shaped leaves and was reminded of this little essay I wrote several years ago. (Apologies if I've shared this on this blog before.)

Today's word is "underside," and it's related to this picture because the mayapple's flowers grow beneath its leaves. Not exactly the underside of the leaf, but close enough!

(P.S. I am catching up, so I'll be back-dating some of these posts. Apologies to those whose emails get bombarded with posts from me in the next day or two!)
